Elon Musk gets into a fair amount of online feuds. While there are certainly fans of his who are — one assumes, anyway — delighted to watch these play out, there’s something more than a little frustrating at watching a 50-year-old billionaire acting like a teenage edgelord online. Last month brought one of his most high-profile feuds yet, this one against Senator Bernie Sanders.
A quick recap: Sanders tweeted a demand that “the extremely wealthy pay their fair share” on November 13. Musk’s response came a day later: “I keep forgetting you’re still alive.” All of which probably left onetime Sanders voters who drive Teslas feeling a bit frustrated, and countless observers asking a simple question: Why, Elon Musk?
One of those observers, it turns out, was none other that Courtney Love. Turns out she’s on Sanders’s side here — and took to Twitter earlier this month to second Sanders’s case and suggest that she has some dirt on Musk. “Don’t pick on Bernie,” she wrote. “It’s Kendall Roy shit.”
As Kim Lyons reported at The Verge, what was especially notable about Love’s Tweet was her reference to Musk’s “str8, male, PayPal mafia email group.” More details on that group — and what may have been said within it — remain elusive, but it certainly sounds enticing and potentially scandalous. Could it be the stuff of a prestige cable drama? Stranger things have happened.
