On this day in 1981, Bob Marley, who helped introduce and popularize reggae music worldwide, died of cancer at the age of 36. Marley first broke through the U.S. charts in ’76, with the release of his album Rastaman Vibration, and has since become one of the bestselling musicians in rock history. Marley’s Legend compilation has been certified 15 times platinum, tying it with albums like Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
