Even as an Apple fanboy — iPhone owner since its launch in 2007, someone who still uses those mediocre earbuds they used to throw in the package and currently writing this sentence on a 2015 MacBook Pro — I’ve been hesitant on the Apple Watch.
A new sale at Amazon might get me to change my mind. Right now, the red colorway of the Apple Watch Series 6 is $320, a new low price.
A few things here: The other colorways are all over the map in pricing and availability. And you’ll want to click on a very small “Save $64.99 at checkout” button to get all the details on the savings, which don’t show up immediately on the product page. “The benefit for this promotion will be applied once your order has been processed and may not be reflected on the final order checkout page,” as they note. The discount only applies to red 40mm GPS model — although the GPS/cellular version is $40-$55 off, depending on model (40 vs 44mm).
Ignoring that strange pricing strategy, let’s dig into what makes the Series 6 an ideal smartwatch: There’s a health sensor here that measures your blood oxygen levels via infrared lights and advanced algorithms (all in about 15 seconds) and also continues to perform background measurements while you sleep. You can take calls and reply to texts from your wrist. An Always-On Retina display is 2.5x brighter outdoors when your wrist is down. And, of course, it functions as your usual fitness/sleep/health tracker. All in a really colorful package.
Worth the fine print? Seems like it.
