Let’s be honest: if thriving in New York is all about survival of the fittest, the fittest aren’t doing Yogilates.
No, they’re training in cages. And to do that, you’ll want to hit up the UFC’s first ever East Coast gym in the FiDi, now accepting members.
Yes, that UFC. Training here is akin to buying your lightbulbs from Thomas Edison.
The sprawling, 6,500 square-foot dojo features a full boxing ring, a thicket of 30 pendulous heavy bags and the coup de pugilistic grâce, an MMA half-cage.
Membership grants unlimited access to the 50+ classes per week, all taught by seasoned MMA brawlers.
Group sessions are for fitness — you’ll use boxing, kickboxing and MMA moves to pummel the heavy bag and work up a sweat.
Technique classes involve hopping into the ring with a partner for pad work and proper scrappin’ drills – or, as the owner calls it, “the science of combat sports.”
Also on offer: a full complement of cardio equipment, strength training machines, free weights and programs for the young’ns.
UFC Gym can also train you for actual cage matches.
Where — to borrow from the ol’ Thunderdome — two men enter, one man gets his face smashed in.
For a limited time prior to their April 24th Grand Opening, UFC Gym is offering memberships without enrollment fees. So be quick (and brutal) about it.
