Getting to know one another often involves a lot of chitchat.
So take the pressure off and let someone else do the talking.
For this date night, you’re headed to The Moth’s biggest annual event, where a roster of all-star raconteurs will deliver tales on everything from heroism to heartbreak.
Plus: an astoundingly affordable tasting menu and a nightcap at one of the city’s best speakeasies.
THE FARE
You’re headed to Prospect Heights’ new experimental American eatery, Oxalis. On offer: a six-course tasting menu. But before you roll your eyes at that typically wallet-crushing experience, relax: this one will only set you back $60/per person. The dishes rotate nightly, but you’re in store for bites like crispy duck breast with fig and yogurt and indulgent goat milk ice cream laced with honey and amaranth. The ingredients are high-brow, while the vibes remain perfect-for-date-night lowkey.
THE FÊTE
Mark your calendar and snag your tickets well in advance for the not-to-be-missed Moth GrandSLAM. Seats will sell out fast. The non-for-profit Moth will descend upon the Music Hall of Williamsburg for their premier event of the year. Dedicated to the art of storytelling, the evening will bring together the best competitors of the year for a championship round of addictive, intimate and oftentimes risky tales exploring the bumpier sides of everyday life. The main event happens June 26th, with tickets released tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12th at 3 p.m. You’ll laugh and you’ll likely cry. But, fret not, you won’t be the only one.
THE FINALE
Top off the night at The 18th Room, a splashy Chelsea speakeasy that boasts a sleek Art Deco aesthetic and major Gatsby vibes. Compare notes from the evening while sipping on bespoke cocktails — which, thanks to the company’s no-waste policy, will end your night on a sustainable note. Word to the wise: this isn’t the kind of place you can expect to stumble into on a whim, so you’ll need to make a reservation. There’s a strict no-standing-room policy, and tables go fast, so be sure to plan ahead. No waste, no standing room, no problem.
