Being lost in New York can be a very good thing.
Exhibit A: the ever-resourceful Kevin McAllister, who took a wrong turn at O’Hare and spent Christmas in New York all by his lonesome 25 years ago today.
To celebrate Home Alone 2’s silver anniversary, we rounded up a grown-ass man’s guide to livin’ large like Kevin in 2017.
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.
The Kevin McAllister Starter Pack
“Howdy do. This is Peter McCallister, the father. I’d like a hotel room please, with an extra large bed, a TV and one of those little refrigerators you have to open with a key. Credit card? You got it.”
To stay warm, dress sharp and make memories, we recommend donning the following …
(clockwise from top left) Drake’s cashmere hat ($175), Taylor Stitch Yosemite shirt ($125), Moore & Giles Crews backpack ($925), Victorinox Swiss Army knife ($40), Polaroid OneStep2 camera ($100), Flint & Tinder 365 pant ($98), Todd Snyder Merino waffle sweater ($188), Huckberry Penfield Apex jacket ($330)
Playing Tourist
“Who wants to spend Christmas in a tropical climate anyway? … If I had my own money, I’d go on my own vacation. Alone, without any of you guys. And I’d have the most fun of my whole life.”
Kevin makes a point of hitting all the biggies. So make sure you stop by Radio City Music Hall (their newly revamped Christmas Spectacular is showing now), jet through Battery Park, gaze out at the Statue of Liberty and snap a photo at Grand Army Plaza, the Bethesda Fountain and Rockefeller Center (tree lighting coming on 11/29). Marv and Harry, fresh out of jail, come up on the
In the Belly
Waiter: “Two scoops, sir?”
Kevin: “Two? Make it three. I’m not driving.”
Kevin passes by Chelsea’s Empire Diner to hang with a Santa on stilts. Still kickin’ today, we highly recommend their Sourdough Pretzel Crusted Chicken. It’s no cheese pizza, but it’ll fetch. And special for the 25th affair, Todd English is serving up a throwback ‘90s menu that includes elevated twists on ridiculous classics like SpaghettiOs, Funyun Rings, Sunny D, Zima and Charcuterie Lunchables.
The World-Renowned Plaza Hotel
Cedric the Bellman: “You know, Herbert Hoover once stayed here on this floor.”
Kevin: “The vacuum guy?”
The Plaza’s Home Alone 2 anniversary specials will require a bottomless satchel of loot, but they’ll

Spread Some Holiday Cheer
“You can mess with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas.”
While St. Anne’s Hospital for Children is actually a faculty building at Columbia U., you’ve got plenty of options for being as altruistic as Kevin this holiday season — though stopping two crooks stealing from children in need probably isn’t one of them. Should you be so inclined, we recommend The Friends of the High Line Toy Drive, the New York Cares Winter Wishes program and the Coalition for the Homeless’s Toy Drive, which runs through December 15th.
