The anticipation for the eighth-generation Corvette is so high that Chevrolet dealers began slashing prices on current models before a release date was even set. In fact, General Motors never officially confirmed the release — until now.
On July 18th, the next generation Corvette will be unveiled to the public. And while spy shots have been circulating the internet for years, the automaker released an official camouflage teaser of its own on Instagram. Even in a Dalmatian colorway, it’s a beaut.
There are no other details direct from Chevrolet at this time, even on the release website. (Although if you’re looking to nab one of these before everyone else, you should sign up for updates there.)
But as Car and Driver points out, it will be a mid-engine layout, a massive design change from the traditional front-engine ‘Vette. Additionally, they note the first C8 model will be a Stingray, with Z06, ZR1 and other models to follow (including a hybrid). As for specs, it’s expected to be automatic transmission only, with an upgraded version of the current 6.2-liter V8 putting out about 500 horsepower.
Of course, more power and radical design were expected. But pricing will apparently be worth the wait, too, with only a nominal increase of $5K expected for the C8 Stingray, putting it around $62K. Now that our expectations are set excessively high, all we can do is wait and see if Chevrolet can live up to them come July.
