The New Ford Bronco Will Debut on July 9, O.J. Simpson’s Birthday

You can’t make this up

As we previously reported, the launch of Ford’s new-and-improved Bronco SUV was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After weeks of waiting for a new unveiling date, the automaker announced it would prove the leaked photos right or wrong sometime in July.

Then this week, we got an official date: July 9, 2020.

What’s important about that date? It also happens to be the birthday of O.J. Simpson, who took the most infamous Bronco ride in history when Al Cowlings drove the Juice in a low-speed police chase in a white version of the SUV back on June 17, 1994, ending in Simpson’s arrest in connection with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

As Carscoops wrote, members of the forum Bronco6G.com were some of the first to notice the Bronco release date and Simpson’s birthday fall on the same day, which led to much speculation. Was this deliberate on Ford’s part to drum up interest lost in the coronavirus delays? Is it an unfortunate coincidence that’s part and parcel with automaker woes in the dumpster fire that is 2020? Will Ford change the release date once this news reaches the top?

In a comment to the Detroit Free Press, Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications manager, said, “We’re going to reveal Bronco just like we said we would on July 9.” He added that the parallel with Simpson is “purely coincidental.”

With over three weeks until the reveal, there’s still plenty of time for top brass to change their minds.
