Susannah Skiver Barton

A veteran journalist and sensory evaluation expert, Susannah Skiver Barton is a freelance writer specializing in whisky and other aged spirits. She previously worked as Senior Editor at Whisky Advocate, where she managed digital editorial operations; oversaw Whisky Advocate’s blind tasting department, responsible for the quarterly Buying Guide and annual Top 20 Most Exciting Whiskies of the Year awards list; and served as a reviewer of bourbon, scotch, and other whiskies. Concurrently, she served as Editor-at-Large of wine and spirits trade publication Market Watch.

Susannah combines the chops of an experienced independent reporter with a love of storytelling and sharing her knowledge and passion with others. She has broad experience on video, both taped and live; as a moderator of and participant in industry forums; and as a leader of whisky tastings for groups of all sizes.

Susannah has written hundreds of articles about whisky and spirits and interviewed the top names in the industry, giving her unparalleled access and expertise. She received the Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer Award in 2020. She is a Certified Spirits Specialist, and a graduate of the University of North Carolina and the University of Edinburgh.
