Can We Interest You in an Auction of Military Tactical Vehicles?

Bid on surplus Humvees, Growlers and cargo trucks

Have you ever dreamed of owning a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, an Internally Transportable Light Strike Vehicle or a Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement?

In English, those would be Humvees, Growlers and cargo trucks. And if so, today’s your lucky day (and your neighbor’s unlucky day) because hundreds of tactical vehicles straight from the U.S. military were recently listed for auction at GovPlanet.

Specifically, the ITVs and MTVRs in the camo-adorned fleet are provided by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, according to Military.com. The ITV (or Growler) is “like a cross between a UTV and a Jeep” and the MTVR is engineered “for all kinds of cargo carrying or recovery duties,” writes Foxtrot Alpha. And you’re familiar with the Humvee, the grandpappy of the defanged Hummer.

But because these are coming from the military, they’re probably overpriced, right? Not necessarily. At the time of writing, Humvees are as low as $4.8K, ITVs as low as $5K and all the MTVRs are set at a starting price of $10K. So the big hurdle isn’t the price tag, but figuring out where you’ll be able to drive the damn things.

Thankfully, GovPlanet does a great job explaining the process, answering questions and navigating your state’s regulations. And therein lies the one requirement for ownership: you must be a U.S. citizen to buy.

Right now, auctions are set to start April 3rd and 10th. But if you miss out this time, keep an eye on the auction site for future sales.
