For drivers seeking a ride with 1,400 horsepower that can go zero to 62 mph in under 3 seconds, here is the “Inferno,” a new megacar out of Mexico.
The Inferno Exotic Car is billed as the result of a collaboration by scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs from Italy and the United States, as well as, of course, Mexico. The sleek car reportedly can reach a top speed of 245 miles per hour.
The biggest innovation, however, may be a patented “Metal Foam” skin, which is being featured for the first time on a car. This alloy of zinc, aluminum, and silver reduces weight—the Inferno weighs under 2,650 pounds—but also preserves hyperplasticity, allowing the material to stretch 100 times its length without losing its properties. The Inferno makers describe its strength as being similar to a “commercial armored vehicle,” but at a much lower weight, which is why it can reach speeds rarely attained by a Brink’s armored van.
Production is slated to begin on the Inferno later this year.
