If You’re Gonna Take a Mercedes on Safari …

It’s a jungle out there. Best prepare for it.

To the untrained eye, the Mercedes-Benz G550 is sheer luxury-SUV perfection.

But the folks at Brabus, the German aftermarket customizing wizards, are far from untrained. They took one look at the 2017 model and found one crucial piece missing:

Safari gear.

Thus the Mercedes-Benz G550 Brabus 4×4 Squared was born. A tuned-up, decked-out and off-road-ready leviathan, the most prominent upgrade is the Brabus Safari Package. As Designboom notes, this includes “a low-profile safari European roof rack, custom powder-coated running boards, carbon-fiber trim, a black Brabus grill, adjustable suspension and 22-inch twin five-spoke black wheels wrapped in chunky Toyo mud-terrain tires.”

As for the interior, it’s less George of the Jungle and more Lara Croft, what with soft black Nappa leather, eco-friendly Dinamica suede, heated and ventilated seats, and a Harman Kardon sound system. And for those less impressed by interior bells and whistles, open up the hood and the standard 416-horsepower has been upgraded to 551, and the 450 lb-ft of torque to 576.

Normally, due to the limited nature of these custom rides, you’d be SOL even if you had the cash. But the Motorcar Collection out of Atlanta recently acquired not one, but two versions: the Sintered Bronze Magno (one of five made, with only 52 miles on it) and the Designo Platinum Black Metallic (one of one, with only 900 miles).

Both are listed just north of $300K. Anyone got a crystal skull or lost ark lying around for barter?
