Men from around the world descended on Nashville to fight for the title of “best beard” at the National Beard and Mustache Championship. The annual competition covers 17 categories in which the men can compete, ranging from freestyle, to natural, to facial hair inspired by icons such as Dali and the Musketeers. With the competition as stiff as the waxed mustaches, competitors had to go beard-to-beard to decide whose facial fuzz was the most fan-TASH-tic. (Forgive us, couldn’t resist.) Competitors were judged on their overall appearance, style, and personality, with judges also considering originality and creativity in the freestyle categories. Contestants certainly rose to the challenge with perfectly curled beards and also more outrageous statement styles, such as a Tim Burton-themed beard, and a beard styled to look like a beak.
The 2017 installment will be held in Los Angeles: until then, hold yourself over with the fierce facial hair below.
