Houston Rockets’ GM Daryl Morey Producing Broadway-Style Musical

Morey is one of the forces behind 'Small Ball,' which will be getting a six-week run next April.

Stats-obsessed Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has another secret obsession. He likes theater. A lot. And he’s getting ready for his first, non-NBA curtain call, staging the musical Small Ball—about basketball, of course—over six weeks in Houston, reports the New York Times.

Morey told the Times that “Someday, I want to live in New York and just go to shows.”

The musical, whose book and lyrics were written by Chicago playwright Mickle Maher, follows an island nation of six-inch people, who try to break into the normal-sized real world by founding a basketball team and signing a player named “Michael Jordan,” who is neither the Chicago Bulls star, nor has his skills on the court.

Morey admits, “I didn’t think the worlds of theater and basketball intersected. I thought the Venn diagram would be one person: me. As it turns out, there are a few of us.”
