Charlie Sheen’s star turn as fictional pitcher Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn in 1989’s Major League came with all sorts of real-deal baseball perks.
But times have gotten a little tough for the actor.
According to ESPN, Sheen has revealed himself as the owner of two “Holy Grail”–type pieces of baseball memorabilia, Babe Ruth’s 1927 New York Yankees World Series ring and the transaction document shipping Ruth from the Boston Red Sox to the Yankees in 1919.
“I’ve enjoyed these incredible items for more than two decades and the time has come,” Sheen told ESPN. “Whatever price it brings is gravy.”
Bidding on the ring has been active, with the high bid at press time of $611,590.
A version of the Ruth sale document, once held by Red Sox owner Harry Frazee, sold in 2005 for $996,000. Sheen’s prized catch, however, was the copy in the possession of Yanks’ owner Jacob Ruppert. The current bid is $379,749.
