As you’ve probably been reminded now that the release of No Time to Die is finally imminent, there’s an entire cottage industry of James Bond gear. Some of it is legitimately worth buying, some of it is a little more niche. We place the Bond Peacoat from Billy Reid squarely in the former camp.
We’re big fans of Billy Reid outside the world of 007, but the designer has had a hit garment on his hands for a few years after his Bond Peacoat (named, funnily enough, for his Bond Street store in New York) was worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall. Now, he’s bringing back the sold-out style just in time for wool outerwear season, and you can sign up to be notified when it drops, which is something you should do as it’s likely to be a hot-ticket item.
Now, just because Craig, a dapper man himself, wore the jacket in a movie where he was playing perhaps the most dapper man alive doesn’t automatically mean it’s worth buying. The real reason to consider it is twofold: it’s an exquisitely crafted piece you’ll be wearing for years to come, made in Italy of melton wool, calfskin trim, horn buttons, the works; and the reason it supposedly made it into Skyfall at all is because Daniel Craig himself owned the piece, and he advocated for it.
In other words, you don’t need to be a fictional secret agent to pull this off.
We've put in the work researching, reviewing and rounding up all the shirts, jackets, shoes and accessories you'll need this season, whether it's for yourself or for gifting purposes. Sign up here for weekly style inspo direct to your inbox.
