The news here isn’t that Seth Rogen has started a weed company.
The news it that it took this long.
The Pineapple Express star — and longtime pot enthusiast — just launched Houseplant with his writing partner Evan Goldberg and the Canadian cannabis/hemp company Canopy Growth.
“Houseplant is a passion we’ve brought to life through drive and dedication,” said Rogen in a press release. “Every decision we’ve made for the business reflects the years of education, first-hand experience and respect we have for cannabis.”
To start, the brand is selling Houseplant Sativa (a high-THC strain with dark, hardy leaves and a big, earthy scent), with Indica and Hybrid strains arriving later this year.
Each release arrives in colorful canisters about which one Instagrammer (@theherbsurgeon) rightly noted: “If you’re going to make your packaging with any plastic, please try to use a plastic alternative like hemp or cellulose instead. We don’t need anymore plastic waste on this earth.”
The Houseplant site features several cannabis educational videos, including “Know Your Strains,” “Understanding Portion Control,” “How to Ingest Cannabis” and “How to Roll a Joint.”
If you sign up for the site now, they’ll be sending some limited-edition Houseplant Vinyls to a few email subscribers.
The bad news? For now, Houseplant products are only available in British Columbia, Canada, but should be available for “other legal private retailers” soon.
