Airstream glamps: to paraphrase “Cindy” from last week’s It’s Always Sunny debut, they’ve become a bit basic.
Can’t we get a quasi-outdoors, Instagram-friendly lodging with a little more … creativity?
Ask and ye shall receive, in the form of a fleet of decked-out Conestoga wagons now available for overnights just 20 miles from Yosemite.
Conestogas represent just one of several accommodation options at the Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging, including, yes, a 34-foot Airstream and 19-foot retro camper. The real stars of the show, though, are obviously the resort’s Conestoga wagons.
Happily, the Conestogas on offer provide plenty of “Pioneer Spirit” without involving any “Pioneer Sacrifices” or “Pioneer Ailments Acquired by Drinking Unfiltered Water” (read: dysentery). Guests have use of microwaves, refrigerators and bunk beds; showers and toilets are available nearby. There’s also air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. Altogether, it’s a marked improvement on real-life pioneer situations of all kinds.
Remarkably, the Conestogas are pretty economical — and even cheaper than the resort’s cabins. Off season, you can sleep six for just $149 a night.
The biggest bonus? You’re just 22 miles from a Yosemite entrance.
Of course, that trip has become slightly more complicated than usual due to certain environmental factors.
So be smart. Stay here. And settle in for the night — in your wagon — knowing that if you had been a pioneer, you would have been the best pioneer.
