When the mountains call, a man must go.
So said John Muir, the big-bearded godfather of the great outdoors.
But this is New York. We take delivery.
And so we’re happy to introduce Outdoor Rise, a week-long, city-wide event series hosted by Discover Outdoors that’s bringing upstate activities to your doorstep starting next week.
So you’ll be bouldering in Central Park, kayaking on the Hudson and mountain biking in Queens (Who knew?).
In addition, Discover — which has been leading outdoor activities for 30 years — is putting on nightly lectures and seminars all week. You can hear 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Jennifer Pharr Davis talk about her record-setting through-hike of the Appalachian Trail. Or learn how to take the perfect mid-hike photograph from one of the best snap-shooters in the business.
All events are free. The opening night launch party at Skyroom Lounge, featuring gratis drinks, will be taking donations to benefit DO’s new non-profit wing.
Because when charity calls, a man must go. Especially if there’s beer.
