“You haven’t been downunder till you’ve been outback.”
Make your joke now, but then act quickly: that funny little phrase from Qantas (Editor’s note: We’ve been informed this is the slogan/campaign of Tourism Northern Territory) is actually a pitch for the year’s best travel deal.
The Australian-based airline is offering “Fly Free to the Outback” packages that give international travelers a free one-way onward ticket to various locations away from the continent’s coast: think Alice Springs, Darwin and Uluru/Ayers Rock.
Why go, you ask? Because Australia has one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, and you can pretty much pick any experience between roughing it, going super luxe or something in between. Some possible highlights: exploring 13 beautiful gorges by canoe (or helicopter) in Nitmiluk National Park, taking in the Field of Light art installation at Uluru or just getting a close-up of the best and most dangerous of the world’s wildlife (“hold a baby crocodile”).
Maybe that last one is why you’re only getting a one-way ticket?
Fly Free to the Outback packages are available for purchase from now until the end of July. Travel must be completed before Dec. 31.
