After citing family reasons and skipping trips to the White House following Super Bowl wins when both President Obama and President Trump were in office, Tom Brady broke from recent tradition and made the trip to Washington D.C. with his Tampa Bay teammates to see President Joe Biden.

It was the first time an NFL team has visited the White House after winning the Super Bowl since 2017 and the first time Brady, a seven-time champion, has joined his teammates to celebrate a championship victory in 16 years.

To mark the occasion, the 43-year-old quarterback stepped to the podium and made some remarks, a few of which were at the expense of President Biden. “Not a lot of people think that we could have won. In fact, I think about 40% of people still don’t think we won,” he said. “You understand that, Mr. President?” After Biden responded, Brady went on to kid the president about people calling him “Sleepy Tom.”

In another somewhat funny moment, Brady was asked by Donovan Smith if he “had residency here” as the players walked onto the South Lawn. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been here,” Brady said with a laugh.

So, after all his missed trips to the White House, why did Brady choose to come this time around?

He hasn’t said publicly, and probably won’t, but one reason could be to appease his 41-year-old wife Gisele Bündchen for her birthday, which is today. Unlike her husband, Bündchen was outspoken about being anti-Trump.
