Though it is not official yet, it appears that the New York Knicks’ head coach search will come to a close in the near future. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, fresh from his suspension by the network, reported on Saturday afternoon that the Knicks will name Tom Thibodeau as the next coach for the team, and that the former Timberwolves and Bulls coach will sign a whopping five-year deal.

Thibodeau has long been rumored to be the leading candidate in the Knicks’ search, but the team did interview a handful of other big names for the job. Most recently, reports said that they were looking at Jason Kidd, who is currently an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. The team also interviewed former Knicks coach Mike Woodson, former Brooklyn Nets boss Kenny Atkinson, and current Golden State associate head coach Mike Brown.
According to Wojnarowski, Thibodeau will work closely with Knicks president Leon Rose on revamping the team’s roster, which has eight free agents and is in dire need of a rebuild. In Thibodeau, the Knicks have a coach with a singular vision — his teams are always defense-first — the hope for New York is that they can bring in players that will buy into his hard-working agenda in order to bring the team its first winning season since 2012-2013.
