After not fighting professionally since losing to Kevin McBride in June 2005, Mike Tyson has announced he will be returning to the ring.
Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion of the world at the age of 20 in 1986, will take on Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition match in September, according to TMZ.
Dubbed “The Frontline Battle,” the fight will take place in California under the watch of the California State Athletic Commission and should be available for viewing via pay-per-view and the social media platform Triller.
To promote the fight, Triller will also be shooting a 10-part docuseries featuring 54-year-old Tyson and 51-year-old Jones Jr. — who last fought in 2018 — preparing for their bout.
Tyson, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2011, has been staying in shape and has looked good in training videos that been being released periodically.
In May, Evander Holyfield said he was considering getting into the ring with Tyson for the third (despite losing his ear the last time the two fought).
Around that same time, Tyson said the “gods of war” had ignited his ego and wanted him to go to war again.
“Imagine I went out there and fought,” the former champ said. “I could help all these people and animals we’re talking about. That’s really what it’s about.”
Apparently he will start with Jones and, if all goes well, perhaps Holyfield will be next.
