After being cut by the Los Angeles Rams yesterday despite signing a four-year, $60 million extension in 2018, Todd Gurley has inked a deal to join the Atlanta Falcons in Georgia where he played his college ball.

Gurley’s one-year contract is contingent upon him passing a physical and it is believed to be worth $5 million.

A former Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year, Gurley finished last season with 857 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns on 223 carries (3.8 yards per carry). Though those are not horrible numbers, Gurley never looked like himself last season after suffering a knee injury in 2018 that has continued to linger.

Still, $5 million is a good price to pay for a three-time Pro Bowler who will only be 26 by the time the season starts. If Gurley can even approach what he did in 2017 — 2,093 total yards from scrimmage and a league-leading 19 touchdowns — the former University of Georgia star will be a bargain.

On the Falcons, Gurley will slot in with a fairly good offense that boasts former MVP Matt Ryan at quarterback and star pass-catcher Julio Jones at wide receiver.

This offseason, the Falcons released their starting running back from last year, 28-year-old Devonta Freeman, after he averaged a career-low 3.57 yards per carry last season and managed just two rushing touchdowns.
