The news has been depressing lately, to say the least. And Huffington Post reported last year that “according to some psychologists, exposure to negative and violent media may have serious and long-lasting psychological effects beyond simple feelings of pessimism or disapproval.”
This is why we have animal videos. And why they go viral.
To wit: This past weekend kayaker Eddy Willis was paddling around off the coast of California when he encountered two humpback whales, and their meeting went a little something like this:
Kayaker: How are you?
Big Blue: Very whale thanks, and you?
Dangerous? You betcha. But Willis says he wasn’t scared, telling a local news station, “I love whales, I love sharks. … It’s an adrenaline rush more than anything.” But the words say less than his exalted expression and double fist pump immediately following the incident. What could have been a nasty situation ended up just being an intense face-to-face with the giant singing creatures.
Here, a few other must-see videos of some of beautiful acquatic creatures interacting with humans.
