It isn’t ESPN, but at least one major television network has an interest in seeing if Drew Brees can follow in Tony Romo’s cleat-steps.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New Orleans Saints star quarterback has received calls from at least one non-ESPN network to gauge his interest in retiring from the NFL and taking a TV gig as a game analyst instead. Romo, who made that exact transition prior to the 2017 season, and has been wildly successful in the broadcast booth.

“Drew has not spoken with them or anyone about any new opportunities,” one source close to Brees told ESPN. “Until such time as a decision is made about next season, he will not be engaging in any conversations regarding or considering any new opportunities.”

Brees, who passed for 2,979 yards and 27 touchdowns with just four interceptions during last season, has not made a decision about what he plans to do as of yet.

Though there’s been no indication the soon-to-be-41-year-old wants out of New Orleans, his contract is up and the team could theoretically replace him with veteran Teddy Bridgewater, gadget player Taysom Hill or draft a replacement.

If Brees stays in New Orleans, the NFL’s all-time touchdown leader would likely command a two-year deal for about $60 million with $30 million guaranteed.

Romo, whose contract with CBS is up after this season is over, is expected to draw heavy interest from other television networks and broadcast platforms, including ESPN.
