If you’re the kind of person who enjoys going outside, the opportunity to do so during work is a perk you might be looking for in a job.

That’s what I’ve gathered from Outside magazine’s roundup of the best companies to work for in 2019, anyway. Of the 50 companies that made the list, nearly half are based in Colorado (including three in the top five), where employees gush about everything from “rock climbing and mountain biking, paddling, and hiking” to “spend[ing] quality time outside as often as possible” with offices “full of camp people.”

Other companies on the list were based in similarly outdoorsy areas including Montana, Utah, Arizona and Michigan, where employees enjoyed similar so-called perks involving the great outdoors.

While some of these companies specialized in predictably outdoorsy fields, such as Colorado-based ski equipment company Powder7, others were just run of the mill ad and marketing agencies, tech companies, etc. that happen to nurture a love of outdoor adventure in their employees. Coming in at no. 1 on the list was TDA_Boulder, a Colorado-based ad agency that lets employees take advantage of the area’s “outdoor playground” with lunchtime trail runs and an office that reportedly “looks and feels like a ski chalet.”

While access to outdoor activities seemed to carry a lot of weight in Outside‘s selections, other common perks across the 50 companies listed included such novelties as lunchtime yoga, kombucha and/or cold brew on tap, dog-friendly offices complete with “pawternity leave” (to bond with a new pet or grieve a passed one), and themed bowling parties (?).

So if whatever “camp people” and “parking-lot skate ‘board’ meetings” are sound like your cup of kombucha, your next job might be waiting for you in the great outdoor wonderland of Colorado.
