England’s been taking us for quite a ride the last few weeks (looking at you, Brexit).
And now they’re getting literal about it: by offering tourists (and locals) a ride down a winding, 584-foot tunnel slide.
It’s artist Carsten Höller’s latest edition to London’s looping ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower, built for the 2012 Olympic games and still the country’s largest sculpture. No stranger to slide design, Höller set out to create a structure that would complement the existing Orbit. The Tower’s slide is the world’s longest and tallest. Sliders hit speeds of up to 15 miles per hour through a course of 12 turns, including a tight corkscrew twist.
All in all, the entire trip takes 40 seconds. The slide opens to the public tomorrow — although the first times we saw available for booking were on June 29th.
Entry will cost you £15 (about $22) but also grants access to the Orbit’s viewing platform.
Hell of a way to exit a politico-economic union, that’s for sure.
