Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: a Fall/Winter Uniqlo collection, the 1st post-petroleum running shoe and a fridge that makes craft ice.
Swiss Amry Outdoor Master Mic L and Mic S
Victorinox, makers if the Swiss Army knife, are finally offering an essential style: the outdoor fixed-blade knife. The Outdoor Master comes in two models, the OM Mic L and the OM Mic S. The L and S stand for large and small, offering 100mm and 70mm blades, respectively. And they are full tang, so the blade runs the entire length of the handle. Both knives feature lanyard holes and come with Kydex sheaths (compatible with Tek-Lok belt attachments, if that’s your thing), and if you spring for the Mic L you’ll also get a fire starter. If not, you can grab the smaller one for $119.
UA Curry 6 SL
Steph Curry is only slightly less good at golf than he is at basketball, so it stands to reason that Under Armour has given him his very own shoes to wear while tending to his primary hobby.
Eames Eucalyptus LTR Table
This limited-edition Eucalyptus LTR Table is made from Eucalyptus trees, harvested from the grounds of the modern architectural marvel that is the Eames House in the Pacific Palisades. Are these more expensive than a regular ol’ LTR table? You bet. But it’s not every day you get a chance to own an Eames made from actual Eames trees.
Dictador: 2 Masters
A blend of Colombian rums aged 37-40 years and then finished for six months in various other spirit casks — the most recent edition has a finish in wheated bourbon, rye bourbon and straight rye casks via 1792 Barton Distillery. The end result on that collaboration is incredibly complex and an absolute joy, a beautiful rum that takes on the best properties of American whiskey (and yes, we did get to try it). Good luck getting your hands on these $2000 bottles; the security on this limited release is insane. There are 11 layers of label protection, cryptographic tech and even a fingerprint scanner to prevent fraud or five-finger theft.
Buck Mason Felted Fine Gauge Classic Crew
It doesn’t get much more basic than a charcoal gray crew-neck sweater, but then again, no one does basics quite as well as Buck Mason. $125 ain’t cheap, but we guess it’ll be worth it.
Indochino Outwear
Indochino, the menswear retailer known for its made-to-measure suits, shirts and jackets, is now offering made-to-measure rain jackets and trenchcoats. Take your pick from classic trenches to hooded mac coats in khaki, navy or black — fit exclusively for you.
Yeezy Powerphase
There is a less-hyped line of Yeezys that’s newly available in some very cool colors. The Yeezy Powerphase was originally released back in 2017 in grey, black and off-white leather and just got a perfectly autumnal update with three new colorways: quiet grey, clear brown, and simple brown, which is very confusing since they are all very clearly just different shades of grey?Anyway! They are super nice and can easily be pulled off by the kind of dude who wears Puma Classics, Reebok Club 8 85s or Stan Smiths.
Uniqlo U 2019 Fall/Winter Collection
We have to admit, Uniqlo rarely disappoints. So we’re not surprised we want to get our hands on almost everything from their 2019 Fall/Winter collection (especially that block tech duffle coat). The collection includes pretty much all your cold-weather needs — puffer coats, fleece jackets, sweaters, cardigans, long sleeve button-ups, corduroy pants and jeans — all of course moderately priced.
Crusher ANC Wireless Headphones
We got the chance to test these Crusher ANC Wireless Headphones for ourselves. The new Crusher is a worthy pick for wireless ANC headphones — but the personalized sound and excellent block-out-the-world quality (along with the headset comfort) make these pretty much as good as any similarly priced Bluetooth set, even if you never end up touching the sensory bass lever.
Veja Condor Sneakers
Veja is calling it “the first post-petroleum running shoe.” Meaning these sneakers are made with zero plastic. Instead, the shoes are made with rice waste, banana oil, sugar cane and wild rubber. The sneaks are also 53% bio-based and recycled, so you might want to pick these up for the next global climate strike.
Otterbox Elevation 14 Mug
Otterbox’s new Elevation 14 mug might be your new favorite campfire companion. Made from stainless steel with an internal copper lining, these Otterbox mugs will withstand any terrain or droppage you put them through.
LG Smart Wi-Fi Instaview Refrigerator with Craft Ice Maker
We enjoyed the official launch of this 30 cu. foot fridge at a party where Vanilla Ice and Ice-T — but not Ice Cube — faced off in a cocktail making contest. Why cocktails? The LG makes perfect spheres of nearly clear ice, the same type you’d find in a high-end cocktail bar. It’s also a damn nice cooler on its own, with a see-through door-in-door, adjustable bins and even more ice capabilities … beyond spheres, the freezer here also spits out cubed and crushed ice.
J. Crew Wallace & Barnes Garment-Dyed Chore Blazer
This garment-dyed blazer from Wallace & Barnes might be the next best versatile jacket. It features a notch lapel, instead of the traditional chore jacket collar, and includes unique details like functional cuff buttons and interior patch pockets. And you’ll be able to breathe easy whether that’s during a casual night out, or in the course of your more fancier obligations.
