On Monday, Odell Beckham Jr. made the bold choice of wearing a tuxedo top with a kilt to the Met Gala. And while speaking with GQ, the newly minted Cleveland Brown made some bold statements to match.
Beckham, 26, said he plans on “turning [the Cleveland Browns] into the new [New England] Patriots” and “bringing as many championships there as possible” over the next five seasons.
The last time the Browns, one of the losingest organizations in sports, won an NFL championship was 1964. Lyndon B. Johnson was in office.
Beckham also sounded quite bullish on second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield’s prospects despite not having yet caught a pass from him yet in an NFL game.
“I would say he’s next, but I feel like he’s now,” Beckham said. “He’s Brett Favre — he’s going to be a Hall of Famer.”
The mercurial wideout also said he is “probably the happiest I’ve ever been in my life” since being traded by the New York Giants, the organization that gave him a five-year contract extension worth $95 million in August 2018.
Despite the deal, Beckham felt things were off. “Something in my gut … I just wasn’t very happy,” he said. “It just became not the right fit.”
