Simply put: cars and women. Huzzah.
More correct: Beautifully shot nudes of famous women and one-of-a-kind racing autos.
Separate desires, both available this weekend via Paddle8 (note: links NSFW) and RM Auctions (very SFW).
The aptly-titled “No Clothes” auction, now through May 16th on Paddle8, features the curation powers of Vogue creative director Grace Coddington.
This is an assortment of “stripped-down” works, pun intended. Talking A-level stuff, featuring the photographic prowess of Herb Ritts, Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz and more.
Some favorites:
- A breathtaking B&W portrait of Russian model Natalia Vodianova
- A 1933 print by Henri Cartier-Bresson recalling the Surrealist movement of the era
- Kate Moss, both lying naked among wild flowers and channeling Lolita
Plus, the final modeling pics of Marilyn Monroe, nude Madonna and much more.
Or less, as it were.
And the cars: Just prior to this weekend’s Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco — a.k.a. the most prestigious car race in the world — RM Auctions is selling off a series of classic autos and themed memorabilia.
Some of the rare finds:
- A bulging 1958 Lister-Jaguar prototype, appropriately nicknamed “Knobbly”
- A gorgeous two-liter V-8 1968 Alfa Romeo T33/2
- A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT, one of only 40 made
Plus: race helmets, suits and even a few sea cruisers.
Now, these don’t come cheap: seven figures is the norm. But if you can’t make it to Monaco, you’ll be able to make offers via phone or online.
Until then: time to bid adieu.
