Nick Foles Poised to Cash in With Top QB Prospect Staying in School

Justin Herbert's choice to remain at Oregon has a trickle-down effect for Foles and others.

Thanks to Nick Foles taking the reins at quarterback and leading the Eagles back into the playoff hunt, it was a Merry Christmas for Philadelphia fans.

And, thanks to top NCAA quarterback prospect Josh Herbert announcing he will be staying in school at Oregon next season, it’s shaping up to be a very happy new year for Foles.

Playing out a deal which he is able to opt out of after this season, the 29-year-old figures to enter free agency coming off consecutive seasons that saw him win a Super Bowl MVP and lead a late playoff push (if not more).

With little top competition on the market – Tyrod Taylor, Teddy Bridgewater,  Josh McCown, and Ryan Fitzpatrick are probably the next-best options – Foles should be able to sign a lucrative deal with a QB-needy team.

Should he stay with the Eagles, Foles can make $20 million. But, if he leaves, his recent success and past pedigree dictate he should make much more than that.

“He’ll be going into his age-30 season playing the best ball of his career in an era where quarterbacks can play up to and into their 40s,” according to Sports Illustrated. “Foles may want to stay in Philadelphia. He may look to go be a starter where he considers it a perfect fit. He may not turn his free agency into an auction. All of those things can happen, but Foles’ play, in this market, dictates his worth is much more than the $20 million he could get in 2019.”
