According to TMZ, Cristiano Ronaldo will comply with a request from Las Vegas police to submit a DNA sample as part of the investigation into an alleged rape that took place in 2009.
The investigation, which was reopened last year, is based on a claim by Kathryn Mayorga that Ronaldo assaulted her in his hotel room.
Ronaldo, 33, had always maintained that Mayorga’s claim is bogus and “plans on cooperating with investigators to prove his innocence,” TMZ reports.
This report comes on the heels of English model Jasmine Lennard making allegations on social media that the soccer star threatened to have her body “cut up” and “thrown in a river.”
In a statement, Ronaldo’s legal team said Ronaldo had “no specific recollection” of meeting Lennard at any point.
“He has not had a relationship with her and he has not had any contact with her, whether in the last 18 months as Ms. Lennard suggests, or otherwise,” according to the statement. “The voice notes posted by Ms. Lennard on social media are not of Mr. Ronaldo. Mr. Ronaldo will take appropriate legal action in due course.”
