After being canned by the Worldwide Leader last week amid accusations of leaking confidential information, ex-ESPN host Adnan Virk is planning legal action against his former employer, The New York Post reported.
Though nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s believed ESPN fired Virk because he revealed confidential details about future baseball programming around Sunday Night Baseball to sports media website Awful Announcing.
In addition to the leak itself, ESPN was particularly concerned about the “premeditated nature” of Virk’s outreach to the website.
Following an investigation, the network deduced Virk had revealed confidential details to media members in the past and also concluded he had not been forthcoming when given the chance to come clean.
Virk, a rising star who covered baseball as well as college football and basketball, is not receiving any severance after just signing a four-year contract worth seven figures.
In court, Virk will likely contend that he received no warning and that his firing is too harsh a punishment for his alleged infraction. At worst, Virk’s camp thought he might be suspended for two weeks.
As part of his employment, Virk was required to take compliance training on issues including not leaking confidential information.
