Professional wrestler King Kong Bundy, one of the top heels in the sports in the 1980s, has died at age 61.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
On Monday, his promoter and longtime friend David Herro posted on Facebook : “Today we lost a Legend and a man I consider family. Rest in Peace Chris. We love you. Thank you for believing in me.”
Bundy, whose real name was Christopher Pallies, was a native of Atlantic City and made his World Wrestling Federation debut in 1981.
Instantly recognizable thanks to his size – his official WWE biography bills him as weighing 458 pounds – Bundy was best known for facing Hulk Hogan in 1986 in a steel cage match at WrestleMania 2. Hogan won.
Following the loss to Hogan, Bundy continued to wrestle in the WWF for two more years before hanging up his tights and leaving the circuit in 1988.
Dubbed “The Walking Condominium” by WWE play-by-play announcer Gorilla Monsoon, Bundy did a little bit of acting after his wrestling career was over and did some guest spots on the sitcom Married… With Children.
