Off screen, Miley Cyrus has spent the past year redefining her personal brand. Last fall, she and her long-time beau, Liam Hemsworth, announced their re-engagement. And more recently, she can be found on red carpets all over the world looking more sophisticated than the twerking wild child from the 2013 MTV VMA Awards show.
In her professional life, Miley Cyrus is also transforming with a new album that features upbeat melodies and a more conventional pop-rock sound. On May 11, she released “Malibu,” another single off her yet-to-be-titled album. It showcases the artist’s more mature persona. And to further demonstrate her (sort of) changed ways, Cyrus told Billboard magazine in its May issue: “I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks!”
Her latest video features a new-and-improved Cyrus, a love struck and bikini-clad lady frolicking on a beach and singing about her love life with lyrics like, “I never would’ve believe if three years ago you told me. I’d be here writing this song. But here I am, next to you. The sky’s more blue in Malibu.”
“This record is a reflection of the fact that yes, I don’t give a f–k, but right now is not a time to not give a f–k about people,” Cyrus said, as reported by Rolling Stone. “I’m giving the world a hug and saying, ‘Hey, look. We’re good—.I love you.’ And I hope you can say you love me back.”
