Can you smell what political plans the Rock is cooking? Well, Dwayne Johnson is seriously wrestling with the idea of running for president.
The 45-year-old Johnson told GQ that it is “a real possibility” that he would give up being the highest-paid actor in Hollywood to run for the highest office in the land.
The Fate of the Furious star says his own political interest was stoked after The Washington Post published an op-ed predicting he would be an intriguing candidate given his popularity across partisan lines.
At the time, he posted the article on Instagram, with the noncommittal caption, “the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.”
He elected, though, to keep thinking about it.
“A year ago, it started coming up more and more,” Johnson told GQ for the magazine’s cover story. “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—’We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”
Other actors have made the plunge into politics—most notably former President Ronald Reagan. And, of course, Donald Trump has become the first reality television star to hold the presidency.
