Fans can now watch incredible footage of Bruce Lee’s only “real” MMA fight caught on camera.
Lee, the famous martial artist, movie star and cultural icon, created his own expression of martial arts called Jeet Kune Do (translated: Way of Intercepting Fist). His skill and philosophies have inspired millions. But while he regularly sparred with his students, only one of his MMA fights was ever recorded.
It’s now been restored by YouTube channel, Beerdy: Bruce Lee Central.
“This is the only recording of Bruce Lee in a real MMA fight. He’s fighting Ted Wong here, one of his top students,” the poster wrote.
The video has been taken off Beerdy: Bruce Lee Central’s page, but other YouTubers have reposted the rare footage.
Though it is unclear where the clip was filmed, LadBible suspects it was likely in California, where Lee based his school for Jeet Kune Do. The footage shows Wong repeatedly attempt to get close to Lee, whose lightening fast reactions and fluid movements are on full display. Wong only ever studied under Lee and had no other masters.
Lee died of cerebral edema in 1973 at the age of 32, but his fighting style is still taught today.
