To protect wildlife in Korea, an architect firm is going back to the basics.
KILD architects have proposed a meadow-like bridge to connect two national parks just outside of Seoul, Korea. The firm’s submission was selected as the winner of the Yangjaegogae Eco Bridge design contest.
Once completed, the new bridge will allow safe passage over the Gyeongbu Expressway for animals, including the human variety. The construction of the highway bisected woodlands between the Mount Umyeon and Maljukgeori Parks, according to Designboom.
Covered in local flora, the passageway evokes the aesthetic of traditional Korean gardens through its landscaping and simplistic design. The strip of greenery serves as a natural path for small wild animals to forage and roam. The bridge also features a walking path connecting with nearby hiking trails, which is located on the lower part of the sloped platform.
Construction will begin later this year, but there’s no word yet on when it will be finished.
