A longtime unofficial landmark in the Bay Area, he quirky ‘Flintstones House‘ has been turning heads along I-280 since 1976. Recently, the house hit the market for the first time in 20 years and Redfin agent Julie Zubiate vowed to find a buyer. She did, and they closed on the property on Thursday for $2.8 million.
Designed by architect William Nicholson as an experiment in new building techniques, the house’s domes give the structure a Stone-Age look. They were created by spraying concrete onto steel rebar and wire mesh frames over inflated balloons.
Inside the 2,730 square-foot home, there are three rounded bedrooms and two bathrooms. Zubiate says there are architectural pieces of art all over the house, from the bathroom mirrors to the light fixtures. That, and the view overlooking Crystal Springs Reservoir, are what won the buyer’s heart, who paid cash.
