Touting her latest film while she graces the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, Angelina Jolie writes an open letter to readers, asking: Have we done enough for the generations that follow us? Especially for girls and women?
Her latest project is an animated film that depicts an 11-year-old girl who dresses as a boy so she can feed her family in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Jolie writes in her letter that this is based on a real young refugee she met two weeks before 9/11, and she “can’t imagine how she could’ve made it” since. In addition to speaking about vulnerable women around the world, Jolie touches on the importance in finding the small contributions we each make to society, and the world at large.
“So whoever you are as you read this—a doctor, lawyer, scientist, human rights activist, student, teacher, mother, wife, or boy or girl flipping through your mother’s copy—I hope that you will join me in taking time today to think about how we can all contribute to making a better future.”
