Beauty pageant host Steve Harvey, correctly this time, named 22-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Miss South Africa, as Miss Universe 2017.
Nel-Peters was the first of 92 finalists, the largest ever group of contestants to compete for the title, Cosmopolitan reports.
During the show, Nel-Peters told the audience how she was carjacked on the night she was crowned Miss South Africa. She then used that experience to help her run self-defense programs for young women in her country.
