He’s far from the first to say it, but Terrell Owens thinks it is time for the New York Giants to make a change at the quarterback position.

While speaking with TMZ Sports, the Hall of Fame wide receiver said he believes it’s time for the G-Men to put Eli Manning on the bench because the two-time Super Bowl winner’s play is holding back what game-breaking wideout Odell Beckham Jr. can do on the football field.

“Odell can’t perform because the quarterback is not performing. So, they should basically replace the quarterback,” Owens said. “I mean, if it was anybody else, any other quarterback, he would have already been replaced. So, at this point, give someone else an opportunity.”

Manning has been downright awful for much of this season and, with the Giants now at 1-7 and all-but-eliminated from playoff contention, moving on to backup Kyle Lauletta to see what the rookie can do does make a lot of sense.

The move might also help preserve Manning so the Giants could trade him. If they keep him in, the 14-year-pro is risking injury as he’s already been sacked 31 times through this season’s first eight games. Overall, the team is on pace to surrender 62 sacks this season.

“You have special players that are behind those not so great lines that can make something out of nothing,” Owens said. “Eli’s not one of those types of quarterbacks. He needs protection. He’s won a couple of Super Bowls, but I wouldn’t put him in the legendary status. I wouldn’t put him in that legend status as of yet … no disrespect.”

Even if he does wind up on the bench, Manning will probably make the Hall of Fame.
