A new book by New York Times Magazine correspondent Mark Leibovich adds some new ingredients to the dysfunction cake that’s been baking in New England this offseason.

In Big Game: The NFL in Dangerous Times, Leibovich offers insights from sources with inside knowledge of the situation that suggest quarterback Tom Brady is sick of the Patriot Way.

Leibovich writes it was “pretty clear that things were not great” between the team and Brady and adds the 41-year-old quarterback has become “fed up himself with the Belichick culture.”

According to the book, Brady feels he deserves more “deference and gratitude” from Belichick to the point where “my [Leibovich’s] sense is – informed by talking to some people close to him – that it wouldn’t kill Brady if the Patriots were to release him into free agency, allowing him to control his next move.”

In addition to writing that tight end Rob Gronkowski is also tiring of playing under Belichick, Leibovich also notes Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., predicted his son’s career with the Patriots will “end badly.”

Some great insights to be sure, though it is worth noting Brady did just agree to a reworked contract with the Patriots that could earn him an extra $5 million in incentives.

The book also shares interesting NFL-related nuggets that don’t have anything to do with the Patriots, including anecdotes about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and President Trump.

The book is out September 4.
