Pete Rose may not have given up on his dream of being reinstated into baseball, but he also apparently hasn’t given up the sort of behavior that got him banned in the first place.
Rose, who received a lifetime ban from the Majors in 1989 after an investigation determined he had bet on MLB games while he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds, is apparently still gambling and owes sizable debts to casinos and the IRS.
According to court documents filed by his estranged wife which were obtained by TMZ, MLB ’s all-time hits leader makes more than $1 million from autograph signings but loses most of his cash during high-stakes gambling sessions.
In her filing in Los Angeles Superior Court, Carol Rose (who married Pete in 1984 and is still technically married to him) is asking the court to clarify her estranged husband’s financial situation so a divorce settlement can be finalized.
Rose, 77, was denied reinstatement into MLB for the fourth time by commissioner Rob Manfred in 2015.
