If rumors are correct, one of the biggest rivalries in American pro sports will be making its way across the pond.
According to an Associated Press source, Major League Baseball is planning to have the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox play a two-game series in London in 2019 at the end of June.
The special series, which would be the first MLB regular-season games to take place in Europe, would be played on June 29-30 at Olympic Stadium, which normally functions as the home pitch of West Ham of the Premier League. (The Premier League season is over by late June.)
Should the London games end up taking place, they’ll be just the latest example of MLB expanding its reach as the league has already scheduled regular-season games in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Monterrey, Mexico, this year.
“This is something the two clubs have discussed for years with MLB and hopefully it will become a reality,” Red Sox owner John Henry said in an email to The Associated Press.
