Tom Brady will turn 41 before next season, but around the NFL there’s little hope that the quarterback’s increased age will lead to a substantial decrease in his play on the field.
According to a number of coaches who are familiar with the New England Patriots star from having game-planned against him multiple over the past few seasons, including New York Jets coach Todd Bowles, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid and Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien, they’ve given up on waiting for Brady to decline.
“He’ll probably be as good at 41 as he was at 40. Tom’s ageless,” Bowles told The Boston Herald. “I think he’ll play as well as he wants to, as long as he wants to.”
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik shared similar sentiments, telling the paper Brady’s throwing mechanics haven’t changed much since he entered the league as a sixth-round pick and that he should “definitely” be able to play for two or three more years.
“It’s incredible,” Dominik said. “Whether you love him or you don’t, you’re witnessing something amazing right now. You’ll appreciate it more as time goes away.”
No matter how much avocado ice cream the reigning MVP eats, it stands to reason that Father Time will eventually make Brady slow down. Sounds like it won’t be in 2018 though.
