Bloomberg has published its list of the 100 richest towns in the U.S. based on household income. Atherton, California tops the list, with an astonishing average household income of more than $443,000. Atherton is north of Palo Alto, close to Facebook’s campus. The rest of the top five is rounded out by Cherry Hills Village, Colorado; Scarsdale, New York; Los Altos Hills, California; and Short Hills, New Jersey. California predictably dominates the top 10 with three separate entries, owing its supremacy in the rankings mostly to the extreme wealth of Silicon Valley. Every town in the top 100 has an average household income of more than $200,000.
