A member of the First Family reportedly wants to run America’s largest city.

According to a report in The New York Post, Donald Trump Jr. wants to run for mayor of New York City.

“Drums are beating that Donald Jr. would like to run for mayor. Of where? Where else?” Cindy Adams writes in The Post. “We are not talking some parched sod in Iowa, where the corn is as high as a Democrat’s eye. Kiddies, mother is saying friends are saying he is saying he’d like to run for mayor of New York City.”

In addition to the power and recognition boost Trump Jr. could potentially gain from a mayoral run, there’s also the matter of his feeling towards current NYC mayor Bill de Blasio.

Trump Jr. has long been a critic of de Blasio and was quick to troll him on Twitter after the 58-year-old announced he was entering the presidential race last week.

The president’s son has also criticized de Blasio in the past as well as mentioned he’d like to run against the Democrat.

Since he can no longer run against him as de Blasio is term-limited, the next-best thing for Trump Jr. to do would be to succeed New York’s two-term mayor.

“I never like to rule anything out,” he said in 2016 about a potential run against de Blasio. “We always like to keep our options open, so if I could do that as a service to my country, I would love to do that.”

De Blasio succeeded independent billionaire Mike Bloomberg as New York mayor in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017.

The next mayoral election in New York is 2021.
